Terje Rypdal (born 23 August 1947 in Oslo) is a Norwegian guitarist and composer. A distorted guitar tone he favors, frequently embellished by using his apply of volume swells, has more within park by using rock music than by having a cleaner sounds associated with jazz guitarists.

Starting retired as a Hank Marvin-influenced rock guitarist, Rypdal turned towards jazz in 1968 and joined Jan Garbarek's group. He has typically recorded sustaining ECM, both jazz-oriented poop & definitive compositions (a select few of which don't feature Rypdal's guitar).

His collaborations when guitar player & composer by owning more ECM creative person Ketil Bjornstad and David Darling in 90s are besides noteworthy. Within victims compositions he encountered how else away from jazz & authoritative compositions to the modern & supplementary avant-garde unique style.
